In another case'a'half-'castc"living at Hastings had been subjected to indignities. These eases were both those of persons who had been living for years with Europoans, and away froin any. Native setr tlemcnt. In connection with tho recent case (it Paki Paki,. some Natives had been prevented frpm.travelling, but others, loss scrupulous in obeying tho regulations, had scattered to the four winds of Heaven. The Hon. R. H. RHODES said that ho would inquire further into the matter. No doubt, hardships had occurred in certain cases, but lie was _ informed that some Europeans were living in tlm Nativo settlement at Paki Paki. These people must submit to the regulations. Ho could not understand the cases mentioned by Mr. Campbell, mid would have tiinm inquired-into. ■ The Hon. A. T. NGATA (Eastern Mtfqi;i) asked, whether tho Health Department had cancelled vaccination cer-

tificates granted to Maoris in Hawke's Bay, and whether Natives wero being refused permits to travel by rail. The Hon. R. H. RHODES rbplied that owing to the outbreak at Paki I'aki it had been necessary to impose further restrictions upon Natives travelling in Hawke's Bay. lie would be glad to look into tho matter, and explain the position fully to the hon. gentleman.
