DOMINIONS MUST BE FREE. By Telegraph— Association—Copyright "Times" —Sydney "Sun" Special Cables. (Rec. October 7, 7.40 p.m.) Toronto, October 7. . Mr. Herbert Samr.el (tho British Post-master-General), in a speech on the subject of Imperial relations, said:— "Wo realise in England that Canada, Now Zealand, Australia, and South Africa must not bo interfered with, but must bo masters of their own afiairs. The freedom of the Dominions is the strength of tho Empire, which lives, and will continuo to live, because its various parts aro free." Referring to tho question of Imperial defence, Mr. Samuol said that it could not be right that a burden necessary to tho common advantago of all should press on one pair of shoulders alone, but what action the Dominions should take in that regard was a matter for them alono.
THE.IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. (Press Association.) (Rec. October 7, 8.25 a.m.) Sydney, October 7. Senator Millen (Federal Minister of Defence), commenting on tho announcement by tho London "Daily Telegraph " . that Mr. Asquith (British Prime Minister), would not summon tho Imperial Conference this year, said that if the standard were officially confirmed, the annoJiicement would produce some justification for deep regret. It would not be wise to say more at present, except .to add that it was important that tho over-sea Dominions should know the reason for this decision.
