MOTOR-CAR INVOICE SCANDALS. A PROTRACTED TRIAL. Bt Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, October 6. The hearing of tlio charges against Ralph Milburn, Walter John Kemsley, Edward William Idle, Bruce Anthony Cuthbertson, and Alfred Edward Kemsloy, of conspiring with Raymond Ewart Kemsley, William Crowle, Cecil Thomas Bray, Cjiarles Bro«;n Kellow, Isaac Phizackcrloyj and others to defraud His Majesty's Customs of duty on motorcars, cycles, tires, and accessories imported into Australia by means of falso invoices and declarations, between January, 1905, and June, 1910, was resumed. '' Tho cross-examination of Mr. Nealo, of tho Commonwealth. Customs; was oontinued. Witness gavo instances of manufacturers quoting unduly low prices for certain parts. Ono firm had valued at £24 the body of a .car for which £40 had been paid. Another furnished two invoices for a body at £50 and £31' respectively. In fifteen Australian cases in which people had pleaded guilty the invoices camo tlirough Toner, Kemsley, and Fisher. Alfred Kemsley, one of the accused persons, who was unable, owing to illness, to attend t!hc court in June last (wlien the case was first called on) or subsequently, is dead. Tho bearing was further adjourned till Octobor 15, and on that date will be' adjourned till November 10 to enable tho defence to investigate recently mentioned chargos.
