CULVEItTING MOHAN'S CREEK. As soon as permission is obtained from ,iho owners of property through which Moron's Creole, traverses, its culvorting—a much-needed work —is to be carried out by the I'otone Borough ( Council. For tlio past few months tlio e manufacture of tho concrete pipes for the work has been going on, and as 1 these liavo been completed the work 1 should bo commenced very soon. It is estimated that tho culverting will cost £300. HUTT PARK COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the Hutt Park Com- ■, rnitteo to-morrow evening, the committee will further consideration] to a lettor from the Hockey Association in reference to the association's decision not to further uso tho hockey grounds on tho Hutt Park. j OTHER ITEMS. ] The extension of the water main Heretaunga Street has been commenced and will be completed shortly. f Tho work of extending the concrete wall on the Petone foreshore is to be commenced this week under the (lirec- i tion of tho Borough Engineer (Mr. A. Cowie). MARTIN'S SUBDIVISION. ( The Martin's Subdivision dispute again camo before tho Hutt Borough Council at a special meeting held last evening. The Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny) explained that certain proposals in connection with the matter had been put ' into concrete form. These had been > submitted to tho Hutt Bowling Club } and approved, and all that now remained - was the /agreement of tho council, and the matter would then bo practic- j ally settled. The terms of agreement ; were as follow: —(1) That Messrs. ; Casey and Hayes agree to remove tho buildings on the street line when callcd upon by tho council. (2) That Stovens Street be closed, and that the land be offered to Mr. Waitai at a valuation, and that Mr. Stevens give a 6ft. right of way to the bowling green. (3) That tho amount obtained from tho sale of tlie road bo used as a set-off against solicitor's costs in the Supreme Court action as between solicitor and client. After discussing the matter at somo length, tho following resolution, framed by tho Mayor was moved by Councillor Clendon: —"That the council is not prepared to closo the street and accept a Oft. access, but is prepared ti accept a 33ft. road in liou of Steven's Street, and that a piece of land ibe invested in the council round the lagoon to meet the. present street. The cost of the transfer of tho'land to bo borne by Mr. Stevens, and that Messrs. Casey, llayes, and Stevens pay the law costs. The motion was carried, Councillor Ball alono dissenting to the latter portion of tho motion. SEWAGE MATTER, A report was submitted by the Borough Engineer (Mr. W. J. Roche) at last night's meeting of the Hutt Borough Council on the sewage of tho Willoughby Knight Estate. The cost of such a work, stated the engineer, woultl bo £3076. MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS. Further consideration was given at a special meeting of the Hutt ■- Borough Council last evening to- the proposal t> erect .now borough offices and council chambers at Lower Hutt, in place of tile present leased ones. Plans of the proposed now building were placed before councillors, and showed new offices and meeting chSmbor for the council, library, and'offices for tho River Board (which has expressed itself as being agreeable to tenant the neiv buildings). Councillor Clenden considered that tho public should liavo a voice in the : mattor, nnd a public meeting should bo called. The Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bminy) stated that there was no nee'd to hurry in the mattor; he considered tho council was 'very well off where it was for the time being. He moved that consideration of tho matter be deferred for tlireo months. Tho motion was carried. UPPER HUTT TOWN BOARD. Tho monthly meeting of the Upper Hutt! Board,was held la§t evening. Present, Commissioners Webb (chairman), Beiige, Bennington, Edwards, Kemp, M'Uurdy, and Robertson. Correspondence was received from tho Public Trustee ro ■water supply balance and interest on £5300 awaiting tho board's utilisation. —It was decided to adviso tho Trustee that all loan moneys would be drawn upon before the end of February. From H. Shaw, submitting plans of a buildina which is being renewed after a recent fire. —It was decided to grant permission to ro-erect, subject to tho by-laws. From tho Foxton Borough Council, calling attention to tho proposed shutting down of tho municipal picture enterprise there, andasking the board's support in gaining Government sanction for its continuance.—lt was decided to givo tho required assistance, and advocate _ all amusements being included by legislation. From Messrs. Wilford and Levi, forwarding letter from the Public Trustee, on behalf of the Clark Estate, claiming compensation for a change in tho route of the water pipes through tho estate. —It was decided to acquaint the board's solicitors with the original correspondence bearing upon, this matter. From P. H. Tosse, waterworks contractor, ro interest claimed by Duthio and Co. (£39 6s. 4d.).—Deferred for further consideration. From the Public Trustee advising the board that a further sum of £1000 had been deposited with tho board's bankers, as requested — Received. In connection with the footpath which is now being constructed at the Trenthem end of the township, it was decided to ask the board's road engineers (Messrs. Seaton, Sladden, and Pavitt) to supervise the work at their earliest convenience. Tho treasurer's report showed that current receipts totalled £1691 17s. Id.; expenditure, £1643 16s. lid.; outstanding rates, £260; leaving a debit balanco of a littlo over £6. Mr. Laing-Meason (the board s waterworks engineer) reported that the new pipe bridge across tho river at Clarke a would be completed in about a fortnight. The engineer was of opinion that a more universal adoption of a half-men water pipe for household supply meet all requirements, except in the case of hotels and factories. NO LICENSE LEAGUE. At a full meeting of tho Hutt Electorate No-License League Executive last evening the following resolution was carried: —"That whilst reaffirming our belief in tho principle or the baro majority to decide all issues, tins executive urges tho Gou)rnmeiit to immediately introduce a Bill to at least materially reduce tho three-fifths handicap, upon tlio national issue, and no urgo all members of Parliament _ to , assist in tho passage of such legislation." A copy of the resolution is to bo sent to the Prime Minister and tho member for tho district. Tlio secretary was instructed to forward, a letter or 'condolence to Mrs. Nicholls in connection with tho death of tho late Mr. u. B.
