After a day's rain the morning broke fine and olear and throughout the afternoon not a cloud was to bo seen in tho sky. There was a record crowd at the Park, and everything wont off splendidly. .Four first favourites scored during tho day, ■ and backers generally had a good time. ' , ' There were no scratchings for the Hack Hurdles, for which event Presfcwich, the .Karamu representative, was a strong order. The favourite flattered his supporters at tho straight entrance, but in the run to the post nothing had a . chance with Merrio Vallet, who (capably handled by O'Connell) was always in a good position. Lamßdorff and kirkby made all tho early running, and tho latter was in front at tho last obstacle.. Adroit, a stablo mate of Ngarua who ran second to Bon Rain at Hastings, had an easy task in tho Trial Hack Handicap. Berg and Dispatch Carrier mado tho early running but one? in the straight tho Palmorston mare' went right away. A well-fancied candidate, in. Trogan (Achilles —Lady Helen) was badly bumped tit' tho start, and lost her rider (L. Wilson) who was so badly bruised that ho had to concel his other engagements. ' Bollin was a' strong fanoy for tho Taradalo Hurdles, - but all .tho runners (with tho exception of' Defeat) carried nionoy. Bravest, ■ followod by Windage and Bollin in that ordor, made the early running,, and tho former was still at tho head of the 'field when the last four furlongs wore entered on. Bollin then closed up, but was ,done with at the- straight entrance, where Windago and Rongomau displaced Bravest. Windage was first over the last obstacle but, in tho run to tho post, could not stall off Rongomau, who fenced hotter than at Hastings. Defeat was two furlongs away at the finish. On account of his good showing in tho Hawko's Bay Guineas, Birkful- was supported for the County Hack -Handicap, very much as if the event was all over. This popular anticipation duly materialised, but the colt's supporters got a great shock when the tapes were released, as Conquest was almost thrown. Tho colt stumbled and it was only by luck that the rider was ablo to regain the saddle.' As it was tho colt lost a lot of ground, and had to go round the field. Conquest eased him at the half-distance, and Hikitapu almost stole a march oh his mount, being beaten only by a neck. Anguish showed paoe for six furlongs, and Settler was running on well.' at the finish. Two fairly well backed ones —Discussion and Immensity—were, prominent.only in the early stages. All tho acccptors for tho. Park Stakes wont to the post, Mysteriach being installed a pronounced favourite, carrying twice as much money as Cork and R-ed-loh. Mangaroa was fairly well supported, and Matlow and The Hague also had admirers. Arohaku and French Rose set a merry pace at tho start, followed by Mangaroa and Rcdloh. The first-named was in chargo at tho straight entrance, .but half-way down the running, Redloh collared her. Mangaroa, who galloped kindly all the way, then camo on the scene and won comfortably. The favourite was never dangerous, Cork and Tho Hague also being disappointing. Birkline, the iiotsidcr of tho field, looked very rough. Downham (Downshiro —Sea • Shell) mado a one-horse raco of tho Juvenile Handicap. Mr. Watt's horse drew No. 1 place at tho barrier, and getting away well, was never troubled. Chimo ran well, as'did^ Hyettus, hut neither had a chance with the winner, who appears a likely sort. ■ There was another runaway victory in tho Ahuriri Handicap. Sir Moseley got tho best of a bad start, and won as ho liked in very smart time. Astral, who was fancied by her party, made a bold lead in tho straight, but had no chanco "with tho winner, who is cor-t-ainly a colt of class. The Gisbornoowned Shona May finished at a great rato and cut Golden Glado, who had a good run throughout, out of third money. High Pressure was persuaded to leave with the field, but was never prominent. Thcro was a big "turn up" in the Railway Handicap, for whicn Diavolo was a warm favourite. Tatterloy, who was gently fancied, but did not look ready, set a very merry pace to the straight entrance, whoro Bootlo headed him. Her? Diavolo moved up and at tho distance looked all over a winner. The lightly-weighted Eoceno, however, thon came with a wot sail oil tho rails and, heading the favourite 60 yards from the post, won by a length. The winner's 90 supporters wero rowardod with a big dividend.
