Tho extension of the concrete seawall on tho Petono foreshore —a work to be carried out by tho -Wellington Harbour Board—is to bo commcnccd shortly by tho board's engineer. The wall, which is ono of the main features of tno'beach improvement scheme, was commenced some nine or ten months ago bv tho Potone Council and on the application of that body tho Harbour Board agreed to extend it on as far as tho wharf. -The filling-in between the esplanade and tho wall is being gradually carried out, and it is intended (in tho near or distant future, according as the finances of the borough permit) to asphalt this lillcd-in portion and plant it with treoa/ HUTT FIRE MOTOR. It is now nearly six months since the proposal to purchase a motor fire vehiclo for Lower Hutt was sot on foot. A citizens' committee was appointed, and soon the subscriptions wcro stc-adily mounting up. At present there is over £80 in hand, which, with money premised, should total over £125. All that is required for tho Hutt Council s pound for pound subsidy is £120, and Borne Hutt people consider that it is time that a definite move was made. COMPENSATION CASE. A compensation case is set down for hearing at a special sitting of tho Lower Hutt Magistrate's Court on October 20. The case is ono in which James Walker, of Plimmerton, claims the sum of £165 from the Hutt County Council by way of compensation for land taken for a road, and damage to the property. Dr. A. M'Arthur will ho tho presiding-mag-istrate. AN ANNIVERSARY.' Tho anniversary services in connection with tho Petono Church of Christ Sunday School concluded last night with a' tea and entertainment by tho children. Tliero was a Capital attendance, and tlio following contributed to tho programme:— Mesdamcs Murgatray, Asliloy, and Womar, and Mr. A. Wright. HUTT FIRE BRIGADE. Tho annual meeting of tho Hutt Firo Brigado was held last evening, Captain Slimi presiding over .% full attendance. The following officers wcro re-elected Captain, Mr. Ti Slinn; lieutenant, Mr. J. Mcllvrido; foreman, Mr. J. Dorau; assistant .foreman, Air. E Ccllett; secretary, Mr. H. Baldwin; lion, surgeon, Dr. Hector; auditors, Messrs. J. Mcilvrido and J. Doran. Tho balance-sheet shou'ed a total'credit of £71. Tho sick fund crcdit balance was £34 lGs. 4d., and tho competition fund crcdit was £1 Bs. lid. The expenditure for tho year was £8 7s. During tho year 42 musters- had been held, and 7 fires had occurred. A donation from tho Bank of Now Zealand was received. It was decided to tako part in tho Hutt Valley Labour sports at Petono. Fireman Stoupo was presented by the president with a two-years' sorvico bar. Tho captain, lieato.'iant, assistant foreman, and Firemen Brooker and Devereau were elected an executive.
