f OPERA HOUSE. i To-night is to see tho last performance of "Tho Quaker Girl" at tho Opera House, and thero should be as In mo an. attendance as thoro was last night to witness this attractive musical comedy as it is presented by Mr. J. C. Williamson's Koyal Comic Opera Company. From the rustic surroundings of tho first act, with its villages and Quaker girls in simplo brown gowns, white aprons, and whito caps, to tho whirlwind of Parisian gaiety, with tho smart dresses at Madame Mum's, and tho Eorp;eous dresses at tho palaco ball, where tho Danso do Champagne, by Mr. •Leslio Holland, Miss Vera i'earce, and a number of coryphees, is quite a feature, this musical comedy is a success. One can laugh at Jeremiah and his foibles with nover a conscienco qualm. Jeremiah is a cross between a Quaker and a "rip," the father being the "rip," and no breaks away at last and accompanies the wliolo party to Paris to attend the newly-married exiled 13onapartist Princess. Tho loifc motif of tho piece is demureness, a demurencss that is roguishly shy, but never unpleasantly so. "Tho Sunskino Girl" is to bo staged 011 Monday. On Monday, 'Tuesday, and Wednesday next "The Sunshine Girl" will bo staged. The now piece is said to possess more swinging choruses than any other musical comedy that has como out of the Gaiety. The two acts are crowded with songs, dances, and laughable items. Bantock), "Here's,to Lovo" (Olive Godwin), "The Butler" (Jessio Lonnen. Jack Cannot, Leslie Holland, and Billio Barlow), "T.iko Me For a " (Blancho Browno and chorus). "Boss of the Show" (Leslio Holland, Jack Cannot, and .C. R. Bantock), "Little Girl Mind You Go" (Leslio Holland and chorus), "Thero's to Live" (Olive Godwin), "In Your Defenco" (Leslie Holland and Jack Cannot), "Publicity" (Grace Palotta and chorus), "Argentine" (Blancho Browne and Leslio Holland), and the Gaby Glide will be introduced by Jessio Lonnen, assisted by Frederick Reade and chorus. Tho orchestral work is said to ho a feature of the production, and the comedians have full scapo for merry-making. HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. A complete circus on the stage is the principal attraction at His Majesty's Theatre and thero will no doubt be a large'attendance at to-day's matinee to see the wonderfully-trained Shetland ponies, dogs, and monkoys go through their performance. After, the matinee tho animals will hold a reception on tho stage and tho children will bo allowed to pass round and pot tho animals. | THE KING'S THEATRE. Britain's supremacy at sea is demonstrated in th& really fine naval film, "Our King's Navy," which is being staged at tho King's Theatre, Sir. Harold Groy's patriotic solo making this still moro acceptable. Tho historical drama, "His Life for tho Emperor," and tho comic, "A Noiso From tho Dosp," aro also greatly appreoi&ted. 6HORTT3' THEATRE. There was a record programme at Shortts' 'Theatre .last night, the feature drama being "Tlie Still Voice," which ir.cludes a number of emotional scenes. "In a Garden," and "Tho Hen. With the Golden Eggs" aro also well received, whilst tho film of the Nowtown School children at drill proved exceedingly popular. . THE EMPRESS THEATRE. - To-day and to-night the current bill of the Empress Theatre continuous pictures will bo shown for the'last time. Tho main attractions aro tho Edison feature drama, "WTicro. Shore and Water Meet," and tho Thanhousar masterpiece drama, '.'Tho Girl of the Cabaret" (starring a clever child actress). The former is a talo of tho disappearance of a husband through being cast away on a dpsert island. A year elapses, and tho wife is approached by a former lover, but tho reappearance of the missing man shatters' the hopes of the suitor. 'Tho Girl of tho Cabaret" is the romance of a talented young lady violinist who plays at a fashionable Now York cafe. The rest includo "Dolly's Stratagem" (Gaumont com-edy-drama) ; "Pa 'Says" (A.B. farcecomedy); "Trieste Harbour" (scenic); "Nativo Life in Liberia" (travel); and "A Youthhil Detective" (comedy). A new. programme is announced for slonday. ""QUAKER GIRL" COUNTRY TOUR. At the termination of tho present Wellington season, J. C. Williamson's Royal Comic. Opera Company will "Tlfe Quaker Girl" at Mastertnn' 011 Tuesday, Octobor 14; "Tho Quaker .Girl" and "The Sunshine Girl" at Napier on Thursday and Friday, Octobor 15 and 16; and these operas will bo presented at Palmcrston North on Friday and Saturday, October 17 and 13. "The Quaker Girl" will be staged at Hawera, on Monday, October 20; at Eltham on Tuesday, October 21; and at Now Plymouth on Wednesday, Qctohor 22. The North Island tour will terminate at Wanganui on Thursday and Friday, October 23 and 24, when "Tho Quaker Girl", and "Tho Sunshine Girl" will be presented. The box plans will be opened in each town three days prior to the opening nights. SPECIAL ORGAN RECITAL. As there is no other engagement in the Town Hall to-night, and the City Organist has received many requests for the repetition of certain items, it has been arranged that a special organ recital will bo given tliis evening at 8 o'clock. Tho items are somo that havo been appreciated at Mr. Page's previous recitals, and include the following :—Finale . "Symphonic Pethetique" (Tschaikovsky), Prelude "Tristan and Isolde" (Wagner), Finals in B Flat (Wolstenholme), Sonatina in A Minor (Karg-Elert), and Prelude Fupio and Variations (Cesar Franck). A highly interesting recital is promised to lovers of organ music. Mr. Pago will continue his revival of old English organ compositions on Wednesday next. CLARA BUTT-RUMFORD CONCERTS Madamo Clara Butt and Mr. Kennerley Rumford leave Sydney by tho Tahiti to-day, and they aro duo to arrive bore on Wednesday next. They will open their second New Zealand tour 011 Thursday next. His Excollency tho Governor (Lord Liverpool) and the Countess of Liverpool havo signified their intention of being present at the first two concerts. Tho musical societies of Wellington have arranged to give their reception at tho Town Hall ; on Friday next. Invitations thereto : will bo issued immediately. Tho box plan for tho sccoud scats (7s. Tho Oriental Bay Tea Kiosk was well filled last evening when the concert arranged by Mr. H. N. Fletcher, in aid of tho Roseneath Public School fund, was given.
