——: —■ AND THE STAFF BOOMS. Messrs. James Hislop (Under-Secre-tary for Internal Affairs) t Robert Triggs (Public Servico Commissioner), and W. R. Blow (Under-Secretary for Publio Works) have been appointed mombers of the nowly-constituted Government Buildings Board. Tko duties of the board will bo to arrango for the accommodation of Departmental staffs in the various Government buildings throughout New Zealand in a more systematic manner than has, been the case in the past. Hitherto this work has been done in a somewhat haphazard manner, with the result that both staffs and the public have been inconvenienced. This is to be remedied as far as possible by devising better plans as far as space considerations and all-round convenience aro concerned. It is also under- [ stood that tho board will advise tho j Cabinet as to what alterations or extensions may be needed in Government of- - fices from time to time. The board recently visited Christchurch, to report on the staff accommodation thcro, and havo' furnished a report to Cabinet thereon.

Mr. 'A. E. Wh.vtc has been appointed Consular-Agent for America in Wellington, vice Mr. Harcourt Turner, resigned. Mr. Arthur' Hollis, who. has been connected with tho staff of J. H. Betlmne and Co. for many years, has appointed secretary of tho_ Now Zealand Rugby Union, in succession to Mr. J. D. Avery, resigned. •Mr. A. Pinlcus, an American visitor to New Zealand, left for Sydney by tho Mocraki last evening. Mr. J. O'Shea, City Solicitor, is at present indisposed. Mr. J. Beban, of Queensland, who has been on a world's tour, returned to Sydney by tho Moeralti yesterday. The Hon. G. J. Smith left for iho south bv tho Wahine last evening. Mr. W. J. Dickie, M.P. for S'elwyn, was a passenger by the same vessel. Dr. Adams was a passenger from Wellington for I'icton by tho Pateona yesterday. Mr. Eroderick Shipman, who introduced Madamo Lillian Nordica to Now Zealand, has made arrangements to tour a concert company beaded by Mr. Paul J)ufault, tho very fino concert tenor, who created an impression when hero with the Nordica Company. Mr. Bagnall and Mr. J. W. Chambers, of Auckland, arrived in Wellington yesterday, and are staying at the Grand Hotel.
