RIFLE SHOOTING,
THE SEASON OPENS TO-DAY. The opening of the rifle shooting season to-dav will be signalised by prac, tico -matches at Trenthawij with tho Karon and Highland Riflo Clubsj and thero will also bo a match between the ofliccrs of tho Sfcli Regiment and tho Dofenco Staff ltiflo Club. A special train will run as in past years, to Trenthapi. and this will continue through tlio season. Next Saturday's feature will bo a Parliamentary match—North Island v. South Island—whidh lias been postponed from to-day to suit tlio convenience of M.P.'s. Tho members aro to bo tho guests of tlio Karon Rifle Club, at wlioso invitation the Hon. James Allen (Minister of Del'enco) is to fornially declare t'ho season open by firing the first shot. Tho conditions for tlio Parliamentary ma'tcli are ton men each side seven snots cacli at 300 yards and COO yards. Tho North Island won a close match last year.
