HATAITAI BATHING CLUB. Tho report and balance-sheet of the Hataitai Bathing Club presented at its annual meeting stated that tho membership consisted of 86 paying memberß. and aa tho children of members enjoyed' the privileges of the club , it was estimated that fully 300 persons used tho bathing shed. Tho necessity of enlarging the slicd was discussed, and the jncommittee were directed'to givo tho matter their attention. It is probable that debentures will be issued to moot tho expenses in connection with alterations to tho club's premises. It was also decidcd that the membership be limited to 100 paying members._ Officers were elected for tho ensuing year as follow: —Patron, Dr Newman, M.P.; president, Mr. R. M. _ Isaacs; vico-presidonts, Messrs. G. Halliday, H. D. Edwards, O. Pennoy, F. W. Firkett, and H. Prico; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. C. Burbery, M.P.S.; committee, Messrs. A. J. Tresize. F. 0. Renouf, 0. N. Beasloy. A. Sinclair, A. Shepherd, and R. Bolland; auditor, Mr- J. L. Arcus. A vote of thanks was accorded tho rotiring secretary, Mr. E. A. Batt, and also to the auditor. ONE MAN ONE CLUB. The Wellington Swimming Club is making an endeavour to have Rule 6 of tho centre's rules altered in tho direction of making it compulsory for a swimmor to be a member of one club. The presont system allows a swimmer to bo a member "of several clubs. The secretary of tho Wellington Club forwards tho following letter advocating the abolition of the present Bystcru. He states:— "A large majority of tho members of tho club favour the new rule for several reasons. They contend that by tho present mode the W.A.S.C. loses tho services of boys who havo been coached and traijjed by tho Wellington Club's veterans, Messrs. T. Shields, R. J. Grimmett, A. A. Sommcrvillo, and others. These boys join other clubs, and because of divided interest, forget the olub that nurtured them. This question of divided interest again arises with tho senior members, as no man can-do his best for several clubs at the samo time. Tho rulo which allows a man to belong to several clubs is peculiar to swimmers in Wellington. The 'one-man-ono-club system is in vogue in every other sport and centre, and has proved satisfactory. The new system . will do a groat deal to extend the presont healthy rivalry between tho chibs by concentrating each man's loyalty in his own club. As every member is awaro an unwieldy membership numbers in its ranks a proportion of indifferent members, and the task imposed on a long-suf-fering official in collecting subscriptions is too groat to expect any one man to carry out. In conclusion, the new rule has been discussed and favoured by leading swimmers for a _ number of years, and the W.A.S.C. is to bo congratulated on its progressive movo. '
