—< ; ' IMPROVEMENTS TO BE MADE. Improvements to the Central Public Library ara to be carried out in terms of a report brought down by the Libraries Committeo at last night's meeting of the City Council. On the committee's recommendation, it was • agreed that the city engineer "be authorised to put in hand the construction of a ventilating shaft at tho reading-room, also that two electric fans be authorised to bo procured for use in the rcadingTooni. . The committeo reported that they had considered a proposal of the city engineer for the provision of extra accommodation at tho reference room at ' v tho Central Library, a plan being laid 1 Jon the tablo. It was recommended that authority be granted for the work to' bo, put in hand in February next. The estimated cost is.£7oo. This second xecommendation was also agreed to by the council, the Mayor ■congratulating tho committeo on the excellent report brought down.
