HUTT ROAD.
CITY CONTROL OBJECTED .TO. Control of the Hutt Road was discussed at a conference of representatives of local bodies, held at tlio Town Hall yesterday afternoon. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided, and thero i were also present': Messrs. F. Townfend (Mayor of Mirnmar), J. W. M'Ewan (Mayor of Petono), E. 'P. Bunny (Mayor of Lower Hwft), W. .T. Organ (Mayor of Eastbourne). F. Hoklsworth (Mayor of Onslow), F. T. Moore (chairman of theMakara County Council), W. Galloway (chairman of tho Hutt Countv Council), 0. Jerusalem (chairman of the Johnsonville Town BoardV and R- H. Webb (chairman of the Ilnper Hutt Town Board). The City Solicitor (Mr. J. O'Shea) was also present. .. It was suggested by the chairman that'the preliminary proceedings should not he ( opon to the. press, The City Solicitor had, he said, objection to' ex- . pressing some of his opinions at 'an open meeting. _ After brief disoussiort it was _ agreed that the proceedings should be'in committee. The meeting was' brief .and a resolution carried was conveyed to the press as follows:—"That the conferencewait on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Railways, and lay before them the whole question of the Hutt Road and Tail way improvement, and ascertain from them what.the Government Trill contribute towards ffche cost of'making'the Hutt Road. Further this conference is ofjoninion tliAt the maintenance o f the road should not bo vested in the City Council.',' ' .
