In the House of Representatives .yesterday, Dr. A. K. Newman asked tho Minister for Justico whether he could see his way to remove the discrepancy in pay between tho detective force anil the sergeants of .police. The Minister of Justice (the Hon. A. L. Herdman) replied to tho question as follows:—"Tho oxisting scale of pay affecting the detective force, sergeants of police, and other members of the force "was rovised and settled in April last, and the Government is unaware of any such discrepancy as alluded to by the honourable gentleman."
