Messrs. Dalgetv and Company, Ltd., report :-At our Otaki sale on Tuesday we offered a good yarding of Bieep and a very largo one of cattle. All 'classes of sheep met with good competition, ana we disposed of all lines under tho liammer. Cattle, met with rather a dragging sale, ■but we managed to quit most of our entry under the hammer and privately. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. report:—We held our weekly sale at Solway (Masterton) yesterday, when we submitted a small yarding of eheep and a fairly large one of,cattle to the usual attendance of buyoTe. Competition was not very animated, but wo managed to make-a good clearance.at the following rates:—Forward em'Pty ewes. 17e. 3d.; steers, £5 10a.; yearlings, do., £2 12s: 6d.; yearling heifers, £1 17s. to £3 lis.;, store cows, £3 155.; backward dairy ccwp, to £4. - ■

Prime bullocks, £11 10s. sd. to £12; lighter, £11 to £11 55.; venlers, _31s. to 355.; extra prime heavy ewes, 325.; prime owes, 235. 6d.; . wethers, 2fe. to 265. 6d.; prime lamb, 16s. 9d. to 17<<f. 7d.; lighter, 15e. to 15s. (Mastcrton) saleyards yesterday, when thby offered a yarding of sheep -and cattle, well above advertised irunnbers. There/was a very good attendance of buyers, but bidding: was not as keen as at late'eales, especially for fat ewes, but most of the entry was eold at tho following prices Woolly hoggets, 155., 16s„ t2e. At Addington- live stock' market to-day there were moderate entries of stock in almost all -departments, and a fair attendance. Fat cattle sold at about last week's "rates. Store sheep were firm and without change. Fat lambs were easier in consequenco of a larger, entry, and fat sheep opened firm, but the market was somewhat irregular, Fat pigs showed a considerable advance in prices. There was a good gale for store cattle.
..Store sheep: Two and four-tooth wethers (good), 225. 44.;' two and four two-tooth wethera (in, low condition), 16s. lOd. to 18s. 3d.; hogget? 15s. lOd. to 16s. 2d.; aged ewes, 13s. 6d.'; six and eight-tooth ewes, .with full percentage of lambs, 14s. 5d., all counted; two and four-tooth shorn wethers, 14s. Fat lambs: Best lambs, 19s. to 21s. 6d.; extra, to 265. 6d.; lighter, 16s. to 18s. 6d. Fat sheep: Extra prirno wethers, to 345.; prime, 255. to 305.; others, 19s. sd. to 245. 6d.; shorn wethers, 183. lid. to 21s. .7d.; prime ewes, 225. to 283. 6d.; others, 16s. to 21s. Id.; hoggets, 16s. lOd. to 223. 6d.
Fat cattle: Steers, £8 ss. to £12; extra, to £19 10s.; heifers, -£7 ss. to £9; extra, to £12 155.; cows, £6 ICh. to £8 ICe.; extra, to £13. Store cattle: .Yeanlings, £1 9s. to £1 19s;; fifteen, to eighteen-months sorts, £3 2s; 6d. to £4 35.; two-year heifers, £4 to £4 2s. 6d.: two and a half-year heifers, £5 to £5 45.; cows, £1' 15s. to £6. A line of eight cows, three and four-year-old, made £6; dairy cows, £3 ss. to £9 15s. Fat pigs: Choppers. £4 to £5 155.; heavy :baconors, £3 13s. to £4 10s.; lighter, £3 to £3 lfe. Theso prices wcto equal to 6id. to 6d. per lb. Porkers, large sorts, £2 7s. to '£2 145.; lighter, £2 to £2 ss. These rates were equivalent to 6£d. to 7d. per lb.. Store pigs, best. 355. to 41s. 6d.; medium. 28s. to '345.; small, 225. to 275.; small weanersmade 14s. to 18s.; extra good sorts, 2Cs. to 275.; sows, with pigs, £6 to £7.
PRICES AT BURNSIDK. Dunedfn, October 1. At- Burnside to-day ISO fat cattle were peuned. On the whole, the yarding wgb rather above average quality, the bulk consisting of prime steers of medium weight, and a number of pens of nicely finished heifers. There was a keen demand at prices quite up to Inet week's values. Extra heavy bullocks, £16 lZs. 6d.: prime-. £14 10s. to £15 10s.; medium, £12-to £13 ,10s.; light, £9 to £11; best heifers, £12 to £14 10s.; medium, £9 105. to £.11; light, £6 10s. to £8 10s.
The yarding of fat sheep comprised 2482, of which only a small portion could Ijo clossod as really prime, the balance consisting of medium to ffood quality. The demand was good throughout tho_ sale at valuta about equal to last ivcelt a rates. Extra heavy-weight wethers, 3Cs. to 345.; prime, 265. 6d. to 28s. 6d.; medium, 245. to 255. 6d.; light and inferior, 19s. 6d. to 235. 6d.; prime ewc3, 245. to 265. 9d.; light, to medium, 18s. 6d. to 235. There was o, small yarding of fat and store nigs. Baconers of all sorts were in good demand, and met a highly satisfactory sale. PorkerH, though not so' keenly competed for, realised fair prices. Suckers, slips anil stores were not in sufficient supply to meet the demand, and all sold at prices in advance of late values.
Statistics of live stock for the whole of Canada, at the end of Juno last, as Riven by tho International Institute of Agriculture, compare as follows with those of the corresponding date in 1912:—Horses, 2,535,CCO, against- 2,336J>0Q; milch cows, 3.064.9C0, against* 2,890,100; other cattle. 3,380,400, against 4,093,6C0; sheep. 2,418,400, against 2,360,600 i pigs, 3,254,400, against 2,656,4G0. These figures- show- moderate increases ,in hoTscs, milch, cows, and sheep, a large increase in pigs, and. ?. considerable decline in the number of beef cattle.
The Sydney "Daily Telegraph" states that the Municipal Council of Sydney has been issuing another £125,000 in 4 per cent, debentures. at price? yielding about £4 10s. lid. por cent, to tliß buyer. The debentures having 15 years to run are issued at £94 10s., those having ten ycftT3 to run at £95 10s., and those having five years to run at £97 IPs.
