FOUNDRY BUSINESS,

THE TRANSFER OF J. J. NIVEN & CO. fßr Telegraph.—Spocial IVTeajondent.) Napisr, September 30. At a farewell meeting to tho employees of Niven and Co., who have been transferred to Wellington, Mr. Lionel Nelson assuied those present that the productive part of tho business was staying behind. It-.was necessary that they should have a more central management, especially since they had taken over Messrs. Luke's business, but tbo Napier foundry v.ould remain their chief works. It was. now, and would' (ho hoped) remain the best-appointed of its kind in the colony, and the. staff would probably bo increased rather than lessoned as a result of tho change.

Mr. Mitchell, general manager, said that they had just installed at Napier the most) up-to-date steel plant in tho country, and further important machines'wero on the way out. The Napier works would remain their head producing quarters. He expressed tho regret of all at leaving Napier, but said that they were not entirely severing their connection with tho town.
