At the Church Congress, which is to be held at Southampton, the Bishop of Winchester (tho Right Rev. -Edward Talbot) will preside over an attendanco of 2300 delegates. The Congress will depart from the beaten track —instead of discussing ecclesias'tioal politics or parochial ritualism, tho programme has been arranged under various heads, centring on tho idea of tho "Kingdom of God" in its relation to tho complex problems of life.
Leading ' Nonconformist churchmen will address the Congress on Friday.
The Anglican Church Congress is an annual gathering of Churchmen for the discussions of moral and religous questions. Care is taken to secUT© that the appointed speakers shall fairly represent nil schools of thought in the Church. The congress has no legislative powers and no vote is taken on the questions dealt with. . The congress has not shirked "burning" questions, and at times exciting incidents have occurred. A.s regards the present oongress, when' it became known that ono of the subjects would be "The Kingdom of God and the Sexqs," Lord Curzon drew attention to the fact that this would raise tho question of woman's suffrage and feared that it might possibly givo rise to a scone. The Bishop of Winchester, however, decided to talco the risk, and expressed tho opinion that it would bo wrong to avoid a subject merely because people held very strong opinions about it. This discussion will take place to-day., "The Kingdom of God and tho Social Order" should provide another interesting debate. This includes rural betterment and the ethics of property. The speakers will include Sir Horaco Plunket, the Marquis of Salisbury, Mr. C. Boden Buxton, M.P., Dr. Scott-Holland, Lord Hugh Cecil," and Mr. Philip Snowden, M.P.
