AN ABORTIVE DISCUSSION.

The Board of Trade Inquiry regarding tho Dublin Transport Workers' dispute was opened to-day by Sir George Askwith, Industrial Commissioner. There was a heated, resultless discussion, the men desiring a private and the masters a publio inquiry. And adjournment until Wednesday next was made. ; Forty-six thousand persons are idle in Great Britain as a result of the present industrial unrest. NEW LABOUR POLICY. . TO CREATE A FIGHTING MACHINE. (Reo. October 1, 0.5 a.m.) London, September 30. A number of influential trade- unionists are promoting a new policy _ to eliminate the benefit of Friendly Society work, and concentrate their energies to building up a huge fund in order to secure greater political and industrial advantages, to convert trade unionism into' a direct fighting machine, and to broaden the scope of the organisation to cater for the production or tho primary necessities by workers themselves'.
BUILDERS' LABOURERS' DEMANDS. (Reo. September 30, 10.20 p.m.) London, September 30
The builders' labourers of London, who demanded better overtime rates and an earlier rise, have finally accepted tho offor of tho employers, who ooncedod the overtime demands.
SYNDICALIST CONGRESS. "Times"—Sydney "Sun" Special Cables. London, September 29. The International Syndicalist- Congress in London is considering tho use of an international language, and the duty of the trades unions in timo of war.
Tho object of the congress is to federate the world's syndicalists, and thus better the system of _ publishing news of strikes and industrial movements.
BROKEN HILL STRIKE "OFF." Sydney, September 30. A mass meeting of Broken Hill shop assistants decided that tho employees should resume' unconditionally from today. The strike has been' declared "off."-
