EDUCATION MATTERS,
MEETING OF THE BOARD
At the monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board yesterday Mr. Kobert Leo presided. There were also present: Sir Walter Buchanan, and Messrs. A. W. Hog£, Moss, H. Freeman, J. Kobbell, J. &■ W. Aitken, and W. H. Field.
According to the report of the Finance Committee, the debit balance on September 26 last stood at £1559 6s. sd. The Minister of Education wrote declining grant for the Newlands School. ' The question, of tho physical instruction camps came up for'discussion when intimation was received from the Wellington District Institute and the W a '" larapa Sub-Branch that they favoured tho dates from March 27 to April 9. It was resolved to refer tho question to the inspectors. A sum of £20 was granted the Kaliautara School' Committee towards metalling and 1 grading. was made in connection with an expenditure of £68 undertaken by the committee, and which it was reported would he borne by tho chairman (Mr. W. E. Bidwill) who had been very generoUß in supplying, funds and labour to caiTy out'improvements at tho 6chool. _ A proposod .exchange of land with tho Eketahuna Borough Council was left to Mr. Moss to deal with.
On. tho rcoommendation of the Finance Commit/tee, it was resolved that further inquiry be.made in regard to additional'ground required for a site at Mangaone. The Finance Committee recommended and it was agreed that the new school to US ereotea at Wellington South be called tho Britomart Street School.
