A SHOW LOTTERY

Hawera, September 29. A. W. Gillies, chairman of the South Tariinaki Winter Show Company, was to-day proceeded against for having committed a breach of the Gaming Act, in that he, on behalf of tho company, established n lottery at the last winter show by raffling a motor-car. Defendant pleaded guilty, and his counsel stated tho.t the company had acted ill good faith, but that an honest mistake had been made upon a point of law. Counsel for the Crown pointed out that no fraud was imputed against Gillies. A fine of £10 was imposed on Gillies, and Stuart linnis, who sold tho tickets, .in the raffle, was fined £!•
