ELECTORAL DEPARTMENT.
COMMISSIONERS MAKE A' CHANG! Tho Public Servloe Commissioners have taken steps, which will mean a complete change in the personnel of tho chief electoral officers as from Wednesday nest, October 1. Hitherto the electoral officers have worked under a sub-department with the RegistrarGeneral as tho head. But in view of the surrounding circumstances tho Commissioners have decided to include that Department in the Department of Internal Affairs, of which Mr. James Hislop is the Under-Secretary.' ; By this important change Mr. Hislop becomes Chief Electoral Officer for New Zealand, vice Mr. F. W. Man?field, who on account of his health has been obliged to relinquish those duties. He will, however, still retain tho position of Registrar-General. Consequent upon this change, several' promotions have been made. Mr. G. G. Hodgkins, for tho past eight years Registrar of Birtlis, Deaths, and Marriages for tho Wellington distriot, has been appointed Deputy-Chief Electoral Officer. As Registrar of Electors for Wellington Central Mr. Hodgkins has had a good deal of experience in electoral matters. His place as Registrar of Birtlis, Deaths, and Marriages for the Wellington district will betaken by Mr. W. W. Cook,. Chief Clerk in the Registrar-General's Department, to which duties will be added the duties of Deptuy-Registrar-General. The agreeable duty of uniting in holy wedlock the many couples who prefer tho privacy of tho Registry Office' for the marriage ceremony will, however, fall to tho lot of Mr. J. Palethorpe, who becomes Deputy-Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages for the Wellington district. Mr. J. W. Salmon, who has been 'Acting-Registrar-General and Chief Electoral Officer, will resume his duties as postmaster at Marton and Registrar pf Electors for Wellington South*
