CONTROL OF CRICKET.

ASSOCIATION MEETS. THE PROBLEM OF FINANCES. The annual meeting of the AVellington Cricket Association was held last evening; Mr. J. I'. Firth presiding. ilr. D. M'Kcnzie moved: "That the Old Boys' Cricket Club he allowed to miter a team for the senior championship, aiid that the rules be altered accordingly." Mr. L. Goldfinch, as a delegates from the club, urged that the affiliation should be allowed. The motion was carried. The chairman then moved the adoption of the report am;] balance-sheet. This was seconded by -Mr. 1!. F. Luckie, who proceeded to give reasons for tho unsatisfactory state of tho association's finances. v > Management Criticised. Mr. A. E. Smith, East Club, severely criticised the manner in which the bal-ance-sheet was presented. He also charged tho Management Committee with not being economical enough, and instanced the expenditure of £300 in wages for the groundsman. Ho believed that if a vole were to bo taken of those playing under Lhe auspices of the association last year, tho result would be one. of absolute no-con-fidence in tile Management Committee. Mr. J{. A. Wright considered that the linancial position of the association nas very grave. The liability of £-l(j9 odd required serious attention. Jlr. C. G. Wil<on deprecated tho criticism levelled against the Management Committee, and he vigorously defended the amount paid to Jlr. Saunders, tho groundsman. Mr. F. A. Midlauc thought that it devolved on cricketers to do their utmost to make the proposed art union a s success, in. order to straighten' out tho finances. / i Election of Officers. Tiie election of officers was then proceeded with as follows: —I'atron, His Excellency tho Governor; president, Hon. H. D. Bell, re-elected; vice-presi-dents, Hon. F. M. B. Fisher, Dr. A. K. Newman, IJr. Boss, I'iofessor Hunter, and Messrs. J, P. Firth, K. A. Wright, E. ]'. Bunny, and W. E. Betliune; vice-president to Mew Zealand Cpuncil, Hon. H. D. Bell (reelected)'; delegates to . New Zealand Cricket Council, Messrs. M. F. Luckie and G. G. Wilson; Management Committee, Messrs. C. G. Wilson, iti. J. Crombie, F. A. Midlane, A. A. George, E. M. Beechey, J. Fanning, C. A. Hickson, and L. Goldfinch; (Mr. M. F. Luckio did not seek re-election as chairman of this committee); secretary, Mr. E. 11. Beechey; treasurer, Mr. F. M. Martin; auditor, Mr. C. E. Stevens. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to the retiring secretary, Mr. E. B. Vance, and to the retiring treasurer, Mr. \Y. S. Hood. Other Matters. Mr. Luckio moved alterations in the rules to give, effect to tho resolution passed at the last general meeting of ,tho association. —Carried. Mr. Fanning's motion, which requires that a general mooting of the association shall be held on the tllird Friday in the months of November, January, March, and May in each year, -,vas also carried. Mr. F. A. Laws's motion that the deduction of a point be made from the championship total of teams which do not observe punctuality in starting mutches was declared lost. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. M. F. 'Luckio on the occasion of lii.s retirement from r.ctivc participation in the management of the association. Mr. Luckio has had a voice in the councils of the association' for tho past lo years. It was unanimously decided to appoint him a life member.-
