(By Telegraph.—Spccial Correspondent.) Wanganul, September 25. ■ The racing produced several fine finishos, and tho .race for tho Guineas brought to light what is likely to ba the best three-year-old filly of tlio year. This is Bonny Helen,. who was bred by Mr. G. F. Moore, of Kai Iwi, and was sold as a yearling to Mr. A. Alexander, of Now Plymouth. To-day sho galloped away from tlio field at tlio business end, and pulled up as if sho had only had an exorcise canter. Tho held was dispatched tho first timo to a beautiful start. Inimcr, on tlio inside, was tho first to show out, but Murray Hobbs's pair, Mowbray and Rinaldo, were very wido at tho first turn. Then they woro pulled in behind, and Immer led Bonny Helen dowii tho back. At tho five furlongs post the pace was clapped on, and two furlongs later Mowbray was in third place. Bonny Helen ran up to Immer at tlio quarter-mile post, and, though the paco was very strong, the Wei-, linofton fillv disputed every inch of ground. Over tho last half-furlong sho tired, and Bonny Helon ran on alone, while llinaldo, who had como from a . long way back, cut Immer out of second

money in the last stride. Mowbray was a poor fourth, and Stevedore a bad last. The win was a very popular ono, and wheii "all right" was signalled tho breeder and -owner of tho winner wore congratulated on all sides. There were soveral upsets of favourites during'the day, and backers generally fared badly. With tho oxception of Toney, who was very sore, and Postillion, who stripped on the big side, tho whole of tho runners woro well backcd in flie opening ovent. Royal Simon was the actual favourite, but lie had a very BligiiJ call on Kanilci, Merry Frank, and Tree Lucerno. At the start the lastnamed rushed to the front, and never lot the others in. Makara and Morry Frank were his nearest attendants down the back, but at the turn the remainder closed oil thorn. Smilax got clear in tho run home, but had 110 chance of reaching tho leader. Tho ] remainder 'finished in a bunch.

Sunbird was backed down to a very short prico in the Maiden Raco, and had' tho Martian filly got any sort of a run she would havo won easily, but after getting stopped soveral times sho could only run third at the finish. Tho ninnor turned up in the good-looking Toa Tere, wlio also got a bad run, but was able to get. up in timo to-score a length victory from tho Wellingtonowned Charlerose, who was prominent the whole way. Sylvan Dale Bliowed paco for a while, but the last bit found Lor out. .1

Goodwin Park was the favourite in the Okehu Hurdles, but ho was not at ;such a short prico as was anticipated. This was brought about by, tho defeat of tho favourites earlier in tho day,'as the public was now looking for outsiders. Ngatimaruled for the greater part of tho way, witli Goodwin Pairk chasing liini. , Half a milo from home Darby Paul closeu up, but Goodwin Park was not dono _ with, neither was Ngatimaru. This trio jumped tho Inst fence practically on terms, and after a great finish the favourite won by a neck, with Darby Paul a head behind tho second horse. It was a grand finish and raised the enthusiasm of tho crowd.

Phroso commanded tho attention of backers in tho Hack Hurdles and after allowing Aviatrix to maiko the running for a mile she then camo out and won very easily. The unlucky Timothy was again in second place and his stable companion, Sam Pan, was third, whilo Aviatrix was the next to finish. Daisy Paul, who carried tho confidence of her owner, ran very badly.

By the time tho Hack Race camo on /everybody was discussing the Maniopoto stock anE when R. Johnston saddled up Koivi Poto tho black colt was seen to have a. coat like silk and thero was aniplo evidence that ho ha.d gone on in tho right way sinco Marton, where ho finished second to Bonny Helen, the Guineas winner. Ho touched a vory short price on the machine, but tho good thing nearly camo undone, for he was' very crankjj at tho barrior and when tho tapes Rot reloased lie was tangled up in theni. He was soon toiling in the rear with the big field spread in front of him. Secret Link made tho pace very warm and led by three lengths from Kew to 'the turn .from homo, where the favourite, after several ' disappointments, came round on tho outside and, finishing as true ai steel, he got up in time to win by half a length amid loud cheers. Both the placed horses stopped badly at tho finish and can bo depended upon to be improved by the raco. Several of the other ruriners had their chances spoilt by the crowding that took place on tho way. Mira closed up favourite in the Spring, Handicap,. but • several of tho runners' were well backed. Tho race was the finest seen on the course for. many meetings past-, and. when Roosov;eit,' Gold Crest, Byron","'and Leonta passed the |)ost in a lino no one could tell which horse had won, At the start thero was i lot of hiistlingin tho endeavour'ofthe' •idei'B to secure prominent' positions joing round.tho first bend. At tho six 'urlongs Gold Crest had a break of two engths on Roosevelt, Byron, Passalona, Ceylon, Bronze, and Manawakaha. Down tho back- tho positions wero .unhanged. but at tho threo furlongs Mira ind Leonta moved up, while Bronzo, in ittempting to improve her position, cot i check. At the straight entrance Gold 3rest still led, but Byron, Roosevelt, jconta, and Mira were practically on erms with him. In a splendid finish ■ho leader hung out a bit, and in the ast _ couple of strides Roosevelt got up n time to win by a head. Byron and Leonta wero in a lino and then camo Mira and Coylon. ' • ■

Heavy support canio'for Styrax ana Invader in the last raco in which Austin forfeited his engagement. Styrax was unlucky at the barrier and cot left aoveral lengths, but Invader had every chance, had he been good enough. Over the first six furlongs Yankee Doodle set a vory fast pace, but then gave way to Kooya. At the distance Kooya was tackled' by Draft, but in a punishing finish lasted long enough to score. Styrax finished on well and got third place.
