Wanganui fruit-growers aro expecting a good harvest this year. All orchards are promising well. That the industry is still in its infantile stage in this district, however, is shown by the fact that, at this week's annual meeting of the local Fruit-growers' Association it was found impossible to fill an order from a wholesale firm for an export lino of apples to South America. Tho Wanganui Rifle Association has decided not to hold its usual _ North Island championship meeting this year, but will probably liold a local gathering later in tho season. NAPIER. MASTERTON. The net profits of the Masterton Permanent Investment' y and Building Society for the past year represented 7.29 per cent, on the average share capital employed, as against 7.38 per cent, for flie previous year. The total loans on August 31, 1913, amounted to £52,346, as against £51,480 at the sanio period last year. At a- meeting of the Waiiarapa Employers' Association on Wednesday, Mr. C. A. Tabutian was appointed delegate to the annual conference, to be held in.Wellington next month. A meeting of the Conciliation Council, over which Mr. P. Hally presided, was held on Wednesday in connection with the Wellington Operative Coachworkers' dispute.
