PARLIAMENT.
A DAILY SUMMARY.
The work of Parliament was temporarily suspended, yosterday, botli Houses adjourning as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Sir Wm, Russell.
In the House of Representatives only five minutes were devoted to ordinary business, During that time the Railways Statement was presented by the Hon. W. H. Herrics.
Brief speeches were delivered upon a motion moved by the Prime Minister that the House record its appreciation of the services rendered to Now Zealand by tho late Sir Wm. Russell, hud extend its sympathy to Lady Russell and her family. Tho motion was carried, and the Houjo at 2.67 p.m. adjourned until 2.30 p.m. to-day. _ The Legislative Council received tho Land Tax and Incomo Tax Bill and tho Land and Income Assessment Bill from the Houso of Representatives, _ and both measures were read a first time.
The Hon. H. D. 801 l then moved a motion, relative to the death of Sir ;Wm.' Russell, similar to that carried in tho House of Representatives, • and this having been spoken to and carried the Council adjourned at 2.85 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. to-morrow. ■ It is expected that the report of the Royd Garlick Inquiry Committee will be presented to the House of Representatives to-day.
