HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLED MARKET REPORT. Tho Department of Agriculture, Indu-s----trles, and Commerce has received tho following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, September 23, 1913, regarding the opening of tho fifth series of colonial wool sales t— Wool Sales.—The wool tales have, commenced. The market is .firm, and thero is great competition Continent is buying crossbrcds freely. Values are aobut the same ae last sales; 104,000 bales of New Joaland wol are catalogued. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., have received the following information from their London office, under date of September 24;—" Wool sales opened with large atdance of buyers. Competition is animated. The bulk of the offerings consist of slines. For merinos and greasy crossbreds prices are unchanged. Fino and medium pliped crossbreds show a dcclino of 2i- to 5 por cent. Coarse crossbred 6lipes are unchanged." Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., havo also received the following information from their London office, under dato of September 20:—"Tho dates of our own sales for tho fifth series arc as under:—September 24, October 2, October 6, and Octo-
ber 9." ( / Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received tho following cablegram from their London house, nnder date September 23:—"London wool sales; There waa a full attendance at tho opening of the sales to-day. Competition by Hqmo and Continental buyers was good, and prices, as compared with tho close of preceding Beries, ruled firm for ail sorts, with tho exception of fine and medium crossbred plipo, for which the market is weaker. The opening catalogues wero fairly representative. Amorica is not operating."
Messrs. Abraham and 'Williams, Ltd., havo received the following cablegram from their London agents, dated September 23:—"Tho fifth series of the wool sales opened tqday with a good attendance of buyers. Prices for coarse crossbred and merino, as compared with the closing rates of last series aro unchanged, and the market is firm. The market for fine andi medium crissbreds is a Bliadc weaker."
Messrs. Murray, Bobortg and 00., Ltd., yesterday received the following cablegram dated Soptembcr 23, from their London friends. Messrs. Sanderson, Murray, and Co.:—"London wol sales; Sales havo .opened. Good attendance of buyers, and competition god. Merino, poor selection offered, market firm. Crossbred, market shows not material change."
Messrs. Levin and Co.'s London house cables:—"The September series of tho wool 6ales opened with keen bidding. Offering's, mostly siipo wool. Crossbred opened on ■a par with closing rates of last sales. Fino and modium, Id. lower."
Messrs. W. and G. Tumbull and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cable message from their London house, under date of September 23:—Wool: At tho sales which were hold to-day prices for greasy wool remained unchanged, for slipes a.nd scoured of fine and medium description declined 5 per ccnt. Coarse, unchanged.
The United Farmers' Co-op. Association, Ltd., 149 Lambton Quay, Wellington, have received the following cablegram from their London agents, tmder date September 23:— "Tho fifth series of wool sales opened today, and wero largely attended by Home, Continental, and America nbuyers. Fine, medium, and coarso crossbred ehowa uo ouotablo change as compared with closing fates of previous sale."
Tho Ban!r of New Zealand has received tho following cablegram from its London office, dated September 23:—"Tho sales have opened with strong competition and large attendance of buyers. There is good demand for all kinds of wool. Total net duantit-y Now oZalaiiil available 100,000 bales. Compared with the averago of last sales, priccfl for practically all description aro unchanged."
