Tiie Primo Minister has received through His Excellency tho Governor, tho following appreciation from tho Secretary of Stato for tho Colonies dated August 22, relativo to the recent visit to tho Dominions of tho Empire Trade Commission: — " I have the honour to transmit to Tour Excellency, for communication to your Ministers, a copy of a lotter from tho chairman of tho Dominions Royal Commission, expressing thanks for tho attention shown to tho commissioners wliilo in New Zealand, and also for the arrangements made for carrying out tho investigations of tho commission.—(Signed) L. HARCOURT.", Tho letter in question reads: —" I havo tho honour to request, on my own and my . colleagues' behalf, that our thanks may be conveyed to the new Government for tho kindness shown to the Dominions Royal Commission during its recent visit. .Wo are greatly indebted to His Excellency tho Governor and to the Prime Minister and to other Ministers of State for tho excellent arrangements made for our tour, as well as for much courtesy and hospitality. Some months before our visit the new Government had selected Mr. Malcolm Ross to act as lucal officer of tho commission, and all tho preparations were in liis hands. Mr. Ross took great pains to obtain for us, in evidence, the best opinions on tho- subjects of our mission, and also to ensure beforehand that no detail of the arrangements should bo forgotten. Wo desire to place oil rccord our high appreciation of his work. Tho Dominion Government further appointed Mr. J. Hislop Secretary to the Department of Internal Affairs,. two 'other officers of the Department, as well as Sir. Ross, to meet the commission at tho Bluff and to travel with us through New Zealand. 1 Tho presence of these officers facilitated our inquiries and added to the utility of our visit. Wo desiro particularly to mention tho help given to us by Sir. Hislop, whose thonghtfulness, added to his wide knowledge of Now Zealand and Imperial Affairs, was of very real service. Tho shorthand work vivas entrusted to two members of the New Zealand Hansard staff. They carried out their task with great accuracy and expedition, and we are much obliged to the Dominion Government for placing their. services at our disposal.—(Signed) EDGAR VINCENT.".
