ON THE FUTURE OF THE PACIFIC.

" to Australia must m future consist to & large extent of An-glo-Saxons from America; they are being pushed out of America by tho Latin races." So declared Mr. Alexander Hume Ford, of Honoluh, editor of tho " Mid Pacific Magazine" in an interview last evening. Mr. Ford arrived by the Niagara, and lias a very extensive tour before, him. In proof of his assertion the visitor mentioned that 71 per cent, of Boston's population is lion ■Anglo-Saxon, as 'also is SB per cent, of tho population of Fall ltiver—a cotI ton-spinning town. "The, Anglo-Saxons of New England," he declared, ''cannot hold their own against tho Latin races. Thev are being pushed further and further west, and,, in tho end, they must come to Australia and r<cw Zealand. When they have been hero ten years they will be absolutely loyal Australians and New Zealanders. , • Sir. Ford is enthusiastio about Hawaii, which ho calls tho, " most perfect work of tho Creator." Ho is a keen worker in what is known as the " hands around tho Pacificmovement. Ho advocates a combination amongst .Pacific governments to erect commercial palaces m London and Now lork, and perhaps elsewhere. Such a conifiliation could erect, buildings, no thinks, which would impress the old and new world with tho magnitude ot Pacific interests. . On his travels Mr. Ford wishes to meet the directors of the, tourist bureaux of all countries which. v lie visits and gain lessons wliisli ho may apply for the benefit of th'o Pacific m general, and Hawaii in particular. M,\ Ford believes in the white Australia policv. He says that Japan does not want white mon except as tourists. The North and South Islands of New Zealand, Australia, the I hilippmes, China, Siberia, England and South America figure on the, itinerary in which ho hones to work-in the interests of Pacific states and continents;
