OIL FUEL AT SEA.
THE NIAGARA'S LATEST RUN. (By T«legraph.—Special Correspondent.l Auckland, September 23. A i smart run of two days 23J hours .from Suva brought the Canadian-Aus-tralasian mail steamer Niagara into port at 4.30 p.m. yesterday, about 12 hours ahead of mail contract timo. The vessel came from Vancouver via Honolulu.' Her early arrival is attributed to the advantage obtained in steaming with' oil fuel as compartfd with coal. The ship's officers are thoroughly satisfied with the results and Captain Morrisby informed a reporter last evening that,' throughout tho voyage from Vancouver, only eight of the ton boilers were used. Had tho other two boilers been called into ;Borvice the ship could easily have attained a ;speed of 19 knots. His vessel reached Suva early on Friday morning last, tho voyage to Auckland being resumed at 5 p.m. the same day. As tho weather was fine ho decided to make an attempt to arrive at Auckland yesterday .afternoon and, at noon on Sunday, tho ship was accordingly put at ' full speed under eight boilers. The distance from Suva to. Auckland is 1140 sea miles, and the Niagara logged 17$ knots throughout the run. ,
