TJRADE IN ALLEN STKEET. Onions—The market is well supplied with Californian and Japanese onions, and prices range from £10 to £11 ICc., according to quality. Potatoes are in ample supply. Good sound table, potatoes are ruling at £3 &3. 1 to £3 10s. For seed potatoes the demand is poor, and for Up-to-date, Gamekeeper, and Northern-Star the quotations are £3 ss. to £3 10s. per ton. Flour.—Heavy shipments are coming forward from New ,South Wolos. New Zealand! Hour is selling at £9 per ton f.o.b. south. Bran.—Tlio market is well supplied, the current value being £4 10s. to £4 lEs. Ncr ton. The Ulimaroa, due to-day. is bringing a fair shipment of mandarines, passion fruit, .Seville ■ oranges, lemons, sweet oranges, and pineapples. Hothousegrown 'cucumbers from the Hutt district are reaching the market. Vegetables—Hothouse-grown French beans have come on tho market, and are selling at excellent prices. Cauliflowers ond spring cabbages are selling well: pumpkins and marrows are in exceedingly short supply, and high rateS are ruling. Some excellent samples of rhubarb are reaching tho market, and yesterday some exceptionally choico well-crrown and Avoll-colourcd rhubarb from JTaita excited favourable comment, and told) well.
Customs duty 'collected at the port, of Wellington yesterday amounted to ±.0018 18s. sd.
CANTERBURY GRAIN MARKET. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.! Gliristchurch, September 23. The only wheat offering is Tuscan, for which there is little or no demand. Pearl and Hunters would sell, but, o£ these varieties there i.j nothing coming forward. A few odd lots of oats arc occasionally .submitted, but thero is very little business doing. By Telegraph-i'iebo \ London, September 22. llerr F. O. Licli, the well-known sugar expert of Magdeburg, in hi* monthly circular, states that the production of beet su°-ar in Europe shows. an increase of 2 548,000 ton.*. He estimates that for tlio campaign there will bo a total surplus of 2,031,000 tons.
