THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE'S INQUIRY.
Sir,—l should liko to draw attention to a point, which seems to mo important, in connection with the evidenco I gave before the committee appointed to take evidence on education. No attempt was made to go through omy charges, so that my cross-examination did not traverse the full ground. The Hon. Mr. Allen, knowing that my charges could not bo refated, confined himself to discussing tho condition of affairs in 1903-1905, when I was on the staff, and to an. attempt to lead, me off to 1893, a period not touched upon in ray evidence, the object being plainly to try to make it appear that my charges wero all old. On the other hand a whole section of my evidence dealing with most improper appointments running from 1905 to 1913 was not touched bj any of my cross-exam-iners, Mr. Sidey and tho Hon. Mr. Allen knowing quite well they had no case. I must apolopso for somo of my answers to Mr. Sidey' a questions, but Mr. Sidey was extremely difficult to uiiderstand. I fancy sometimes ho said "University" when he meant "Hospital."
I was glad to notice that Dr. Colquh'oun was not subjccted_ to anything in tlio way of cross-examination. I propose to denl with his evidence later. I shall always remember my appearance before tlie Education Committee: there was such an intense desire for information exhibited. —I am, etc., IRWIN 7 HUNTER.
