MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
STRANGE CONDUCT ALLEGED. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. Yi. G. Riddcll, S.M., William Carlson, a young man, was charged with having committed' an aggravated assault on a woman. It was stated tliat tho accused "had approached a woman whom-he had never w?on in his lifo before, in tho street, and had doalt her a savage blow in the face; He mndo off, but was pursued) by a constable. Ho took a piece of glass from a broken window and) threatened to out his throat with it. Tlio accused, who is a new arrival from the Old Country, was remanded until September 29. The gaol surgeon was instructed to keep nun under observation in tlio meantime, there being reason to suspect his sanity. For insobriety. May Gibbons was fined £2, Maria Cooper £1, and George Harley 10s. . One first offender, who had to be taken to the Hospital, and' who is still tlioro, was remanded until to-morrow. Five others were fined' 10s., and two wero convicted and' discharged.
