WORK OF PRISONERS.

The convicts made them out of butter paper. Where thoy got tho engravings from is ft mystery, but it is believed that tho free Admiralty' mon, coming in contact with tho convicts, completed the counterfeits.
HOW THE NOTES WERE PLACED IN CIRCULATION. A WORKMAN DISMISSED. (Reo. September 21, 6.6 p.m.) London, September 20. The bank notes, which wero circulating in Peterhead, aro tho work of a clever penman. Tho word "five" was written across tho note ill red, it, is believed without special -implements, by a convict in confinement. Tho notes wero circulated by Admiralty labourers working on a building alongside tho convicts.
A prisoner's letter was found promising a fiver to somebody .for tobacco and a vory fino pen, Ono workman has been dismissed for writing to a convict for notes. They wero usually hidden under stones at tho harbour works for tho free mon to discover. Only ono or two warders had charge over a hundred convicts.
