SOLTANO'S GREAT FORM.

At the Rosehill Raoing Club's spring meeting yosterday, New Zealand figured prominently. Now Zealand-owned 'horses won two races, a "Now Zealand-bred colt won tho Guineas, and an ex-Now Zealander won tho Camellia Stakes, tho visiting contingent thus making their mark at first appearauco. ' Beau Soult and Soltano's victorios mako t!he Derby position extremely interesting. Beragoon, who was not started yesterday, still rules as favourite, followed by Soltano and Beau Soult. Soltano showed great pace and gameness in his race. It was a fine achievement to defeat an opponent of suoh calibre as Gigandra, who is favourito for tho Epsom Handicap. The results of the races, in which the New Zoalanders figured, aro as follow: — HURDLE RACE, of 100 sovs. Two miles. Mr. H. Cathedrall's b. gr. Whakaweira, by Pilgrim's Progress—Espaniola, aged (F. Dyor, by Osculator—Niagara Belle, aged ... 3 Fourteen started, including Beacon, who at the start was left half a furlong. Don Quex fell, broke his leg, and was destroyed. (Kelly) 3 Thirteen started, including Empera'Jor, Bst. 111b. Duke Foot© was scratched. Soltano dashed to the front beforo two furlongs had: been covered. He was leading by two lengths at the end of five furlongs from Burri, Modify, Gigandra, and Cyder. The same, order was maintained t!h3" Gigandra challenged at : the ' distance, and drew alongside.' Then a great struggle took place. The big horso appeared momentarily to head the colt, but the latter came again oil the post, ajid won by the shortest of- heads. At an interval, of six lengths followed the third horso. Emperador was fifth some distance back. Time, lmin. 40iseo. —a quarter of a second above the Bosehill record.
