A DAILY SUMMARY.

Members of tho House of Representatives wero in an industrious mood yesterday, and mado short Work of three big Departments of tho Estimates, besides passing a number of smaller accounts. Littlo more tlianhalf an hour was spent in the transaction of formal business whon tho House met in tho afternoon.

Tho Board of Agriculture Bill (Mr. Massoy) was introduced, and read a first time.

At 3.8 p.m. the Houso went into Committee of Supply upon tho Estimates of tho Defenco Department. Tho last item in tho class was not passed until 8.58 p.m., but, though the discussion covered a groat deal of ground, it touched mainly upon working details, and hardly any attempt was mado to introduce contentious issuos. ;

From nine o'clock until 1.20 a.m. the Committee was engaged upon the Estimates of tho Lands Department and those of tho Department of Agriculture. Upon each class many subjects of' interest were raised, but the tone of the discussion throughout was dispassionate.

Before reporting progress the Committee passed the following accounts, most of them without discussion: —State Forests, 1 Scenery Preservation, Lands for Settlement, Government Insuranco, Government Accident Insurance, and Native Land Settlement. The Prime Minister intimated that he expected to put through the remaining classes of tno Estimates —Education, Post and Telegraph, and some minor acfiounts —at a single sitting. Tho House rose at 1.39 a.m. In the Legislative Council the debate upon the Reform Bill was continued by the (Hons. J. Anstey, J. E. Jenkinson, 0. M. Luke, TV. C. F. Carncross, and C. H. Mills. '
