FATHER ACQUITTED.
OF ATTEMPTING TO MURDER HIS DAUGHTER'S BETRAYER, ,
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, September 18. •Arthur Parker lias been acquitted on a'chargerof attempting to murder Georgo M'Kenzie. Parker made a statement in Court as follows: — "I was driven to this' action because I wanted M'Kcnzio to give tho.sheltor of his name to my daughter's honour. I declare that I covered M'Kenzie with a revolver, but at the last moment tho Almightv altered my mind, and I deflected the pistol and fired above his head."
Parker, an old, respectably-connected man, armed with a revolver, dogged M'Kenzie through tho city with tlio object of compelling him to marry Parker's daughter. Eventually M'Kenzie attempted to escape, and jumped down a flight of stairs. Parker than fired at him, but missed. That was M'Kenzio's story of the incident. Parker's counsel, at the preliminary hearing described M'Kenzie os a young profligate, who had ruined Parker's daughter.
