■ (| PROPINQUITY IN SCHOOLS.
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent) Wanganul, September 18. The Wanganui Education Board has frequently had complaints of tho danger of infection to which white children may he exposed through having to sit in school beside Maori children suffering from skin diseases. A recent complaint was received from an Okaiawa parent stating, that his child had contracted "ake ake." . This led to tho board bringing the matter under the notice of the Minister for Education, who has replied stating that the, complaint is not peculiar to Native children, but has also heen found among whites of certain habits. He states that it can be fcured by hot water and soap and sulphur ointment, and that children suffering from it should ho forbidden school till recovered. At the same' meeting at which this reply was received another complaint came from Raetihi, asking if it were Sossible to build a separate school for 'atives, and what power tho committee had in excluding unclean Native children from the schooj. Tho board resolved to forward this letter to tho Department.
