PETONE S.M. COURT

A sitting of tho Petono Magistrate's Court was held yesterday, Mr. R. H. Mothos, J.P., being associated with Dr. M'Arthur on the Bench.

For breach of a prohibition order, Wm, Barr was fined 205., with costs 7s. For procuring liquor for a prohibited person, G. Phillips (an old ago pensioner) was convicted, and ordered to forfeit one month's pension. Epori Te Ptini, who pleaded not guilty to a breach of a prohibition order, was convicted, and fined 205., with costs. Mary Monkhouse pleaded guilty to a charge of supplying liquor to To Puni, and '.vas fined 205., with 9s. costs. ' Louis Judd, charged with falsely representing himself to bo twenty-ono years of ago, for tho purpose of pro'curing liquor at the Central Hotol, was defended by Mr. Salek. Mrs. Card (wifo of the proprietor of tho hotel) stated that sho had not questioned Judd regarding his ago at the time, bur, she had been led to believe that ho was not under age. Constable Moiklejohn also gave ovidence. Accused's counsel asked that the case be dismissed, on the grounds that tho evidence given did not support tho information. His Worship took that viow of tho case, Gqo. A. Tegg' was charged with assaulting— Belcher, at Ngahauranga, on August 5. Accused pleaded guilty, stating that he bad lost his temper, and had struck Belcher oil the fa'co. The Railway Department pressed for a heavy penalty, but owing to tho general good behaviour of accused, the magistrate took a' lenient view of the case, and fined Tegg £1. For driving a vehicle across a path it;. Bolton Street, N. F. Fleet was coiit victed and fined 10s.

T. H. Stephens, J. R. Fitzgerald, and E. N. Cunningham were each fined £1 and costs 75., in default soven days' detention in Alexandra Barracks, for breaches of tho Defenco Act. C. C. Gladhill (who was reported to have attended only four out of eight parades) was fined 10s., with 7s. costs, in default three days' detention. Harold Stewart and H. E. Bird were each convicted, and ordered to pay costs (75.) for a similar olfonce. Tho charges against W. W. Nunn and C. H. Hebbered were withdrawn on account of tho offenders' recent good behaviour. Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in tile following civil cases:—P. C. Freoth v. JanoSiegel, £o 10s., costs 18s. fad.; G. G. Martin v. 11. Campion, to os. Id., costs os.; same v. A. Bains, £4 55., costs 55.; L. James v. 9 Taylor, £3 13s. Gd., costs 10s.; J. \\. M'Ewan v. E. C. Kevill, £13 15s. 3d., costs ss. In a judgment summons case, J. W. M'Ewan v. Samuel Halford, a claim for £2 7s, 10d., debtor was ordered to pay os. per week, the first payment to be made on September 24. in the ease J. L. Boycc v. E. L. Forbes, a claim for £2 55., a similar order was made. C. Harper proceeded against Benjamin Jones for recovery' of £12 10s., and possession of a house. The amount was ordered to be paid, and possession given by October 1.
