ONE OF THE OLD CHURCHES.
ST. ANDREW'S, EPSOM,
(By Telegraph.—Specid Correspondent.) Auckland, September 17. St. Andrew's Church,, at Epsom, which is to be enlarged shortly, is historically ono of tho most interesting in Now Zealand, as it dates back from tho earliest days of Auckland. The first registers contain entries in tho handwriting of Bishop Selwyn, and are dated from 1846. Tho Epsom district was, in those days, covered with heavy bush, and tho first services were held in a clearing hard by the present site, tho Bishop officiating. A small schoolroom was afterwards erected, in which services were conducted by the Revs. W. C. Cotton, Dr. Piirchas, H. W. St. Hill, and E. T. B. Kingdon successively up to 1864. During the next two years several clergy had temporary charge, including'the Rev. T. S. Graco. In 1866 the Rev. Dr. Kinder, headmaster of the Grammar School, took charge, and, next year, tho present church was erected. In 1868 it was consecrated by Bishop Solwyn.
