The U.S.A. battleship Des Moines has arrived at Puerto Plata, where, it had previously been reported, tlw bombardment of the town by the gunboats of the negro republic of Dominica had endangered the safety of American lives, and found order restored.

The steamer Clyde, when about to enter tho harbour, was stopped, but docided to proceed, despito the Dominicans' prohibition. Tho Dominican gunboats thereupon desisted. Tho. rebels have captured the entire northern part of tho island.
