A Pariah Social. An enjoyable social in connection with St. Mary's dedication festival was held in the Parochial Hall at Karori on Tuesday eveniug. Musical items were contributed by the following:—The Rev. A. W. H. Coiupton and Miss Wilson, songs; Miss Greenish and Mrs. Boyes, pianoforte solos.' A skit dealing with tlio balcony scene from "Romeo and Juliet" was provided by Miss HardingeMaltby, Miss Wallace, and Mr. Godfrey, and was followed by an encoro from Miss Hardinge-Maltby. _ Miss Greenish played tho accompaniments. Masterton Dance. A most enjoyable danco was given by tho bachelors of Masterton on Monday night in tho Exchange Hall. The ballroom was decorated with green foliage and mauve flowers, .with mauve shades over the lights, while tho supper tables wero beautifully done with spring flowers and foliage. Tho hostesses were Mrs. Lewis, who wore old rose satin with a beautiful black laco overdress ; Mrs. Collie, in black crepe do cliino"; and Mrs. Fenton, white satin trimmed with point laco. Among tho guests wero: Miss Sellar, in cream crepe'do chine; Miss Lewis, palo pink silk; Miss Eirschborg, white charmeuse; Miss Briston, white satin; Ivliss Symonds, palp pink satin; Miss Cruickshanks, silver grey over green: Miss Russell, white ninon and pale blue corslet; Miss Wol-t-crs, green silk; Miss Carley, palo blue; Miss Stone, white charmeuse with emerald green and bronze overdress; Miss Mace, royal blue njnon; Miss Young, yellow crepe de chi'no ; Miss Ewart, flame-coloured ninon; Miss Jackson, pale yellow; Miss Castlobcrg, .white satin. Also thero wero present: Messrs. Chennels, Milne (2), Kobbel, Hall, Noels, Stewart, Young, Hammond, Langdon (3), Moore, Martin, Johnston, Crawford, Bidwcll, Itcid, E. Schlanders, Bennett, Fenton, Mace, Ithodos, Rawson, Baird! Beard Jackson Bolton (2) Godfrey.
Wellington South Nursing Division. At St. James's Schoolroom on Tuesday, Septombor 16, a large number of the members of the Wellington South Nursing Division submitted themselves for the annual re-examination. District Surgeon 0. D. Henry, M.D., conducted it. and at its closo ho announced that all had succeeded in passing his test, and congratulated, both the Division and its members on its work.
Miss Marchant, formerly the principal of the Dunedin Girls' High School, and daughter of Mr. J. TV. A. Marchant, ex-Survoyor-General, arrived in Wellington yesterday on her return from a visit to England .and the Continent. Miss Marchant has boon sway for tho last two years, and during {he course of her travels visited tho Holy Land.
Mrs. Walter Nathan was a passenger for Wellington by the Maunganui' which arrived hero yesterday from Sydney.
Mrs. and Miss Fell (Nelson) are visiting Wellington.
Mrs. J. Strang (Masterton) and Miss Strang aro in town, and are staying at tile Empire Hotel.
Miss Andorson (ICilbirnie) leaveß this week on a visit to tho Coast.
A concort was held on Tuesday evening at the Methodist - Mission, in Aro Street, for tho benefit of the mission funds. Misses Edna and Phyllis Barrett, Joy Sutherland, Eileen Beggs, and Messrs. Travel's and Russell Graco contributed musical and elocutionary itoms, and a service of song, "Tho Two Golden LiliAs," was given by members of the Sunday school. Mr. Ernest Dawson was the conductor, and was assisted by Mr. Fuller.
Women interested in the Citizens'. Carnival aro asked to attond a meeting of the Ladies' Stalls' Committee, which is to bo lict'd at tho Town Hall on Wednesday, September 24, at 4.30 p.m.
Mrs. Ewart Anderson has been chosen a delegate to represent tho Masterton Branch of tho Reform League at- the coming conforonce to bo held in Wellington, in October.
Miss Ethel F. Anderson,.who has severed her connection with the Masterton Branch of C. Smith's, Ltd., was the recipient of a handsome solid silver manicure set as a token of the esteem in which sho was, held by her fellow employees.
Mrs. Burns, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Jamicson, at Kelburne, returned to Auckland yesterday.
Our Palmerston correspondent states that the ladies of St. Andrew's Church gave an afternoon, tea yesterday to Mrs. Kirk, wifo of Dr. Kirk, of tho Canton Mission.

Dance in St. Peter's. Very enjoyable was the dunce, organised by a committee consisting of tho Misses Batten, Bates, Clark, Fletcher, Garland, M'Gowan, Maclaurin, Myers, Reading, Van Stavercn, and Wilson, held in St. l'eter's Schoolroom last evening, for the benefit of the Boys' Institute bazaar. The- hall had been decorated with flags, lycopodiuin, and flwers, and in tho centre of the room was suspended a large Japaneso sunshade. Chineso lanterns also added a gay touch of colour to tho decorations. The chapcrones present wero Mrs. Batten, wearing mauvo silk, with an overdress of black laco; Mrs. Wilson, in black silk; Mrs. Bates, blue charmeuse, draped with wliito laco; Mrs. Myers, black Charmeuse and laco; Mrs. Garland, black net over white silk; Mrs. Ronnie, black jetted lace; Mrs. Montgomery, black: and Mr,s. Black, in black satin, trimnma with silver embroideries. Of tho comecru laco; Miss Bates, groy charmeuse ecru lace; Miss Bates, grew charmeuse and ninon, with touches of white lace; Miss Fletcher, blue ninon over white satin; Miss Garland, palo blue satin antl laco; Miss Myers, saxo blue charmeuse; Miss Reading, w'hito charmeuse, with a yellow sash; Miss Van Staveron, palo blue ninon; over palo pinkand Miss Wilson, apricot charmeuse. The Women's Gauss In London. The Duchess of Marlborough lias consented to act as chairman of tho Women's Municipal Party, (6ays tho "Pictorial"), which has been formed with the object of putting forward women candidates for the various London municipal bodies, and to get them elected. An influential council is being formed, and will meet at Sunderland House in October to consider tho best way to achiovo this object. It is representative of all shades of politics and also includes working-class members.. Tho necessity for this party was mado evident by the fact that at the recent London County Council elections women candidates wero practically excluded by both Progressive and Moderates, and tlio Women's Municipal party hope that, as they luivo helped men in | the past, men will now como forward and help women in their endeavours to forward tho cause of them and of children. A Royal Sitter. Princess Patricia of Connaught has been sitting for the portrait in oils to Mr. John Lavery, and for her bust ii« marble,to a. Swedish artist, Mr. David Edstroin, who lias lately executed a remarkably clever head of her brother-in-law, tho Swedish Crown Prince. An engagement of considerable interest to New Zealanders is announced from England. It is that of Miss Elspcth Makgill, second daughter, of Sir George Makgill, Bart., and Lady Makgill, of Maxley Hall, Suffolk, ro Captain Aubrey B. Winch, of tho Royal Scots Greys. The wedding is to take place this month at St. Margaret's, Westminster, London. Lady Makgill, tho bride's mother, was better known in Wellington as Miss Frances Grant, . daughter of Mrs. Grant, late of Laurcston, Brougham Street, Wellington. Sir George Makgill is a brother of Dr. Makgill.
