HERD TESTING.
. ENCOURAGING THE YOUNG PEOPLE. Prizes aggregating* £10, to be awarded for accuracy in keeping' herd-testing records, were, says the "Horowhenua Chroniclo," given by Mr. J. G. Wilson, president of the Nov/ Zealand Farmers' Union, to be competed for by the sons and daughtors of members; of tho union's branches within the County of Horowhenua. The competition has just closod. Entries came from Tokomaru on the north to Paraparaumu on' Hm south.' The, judge of tho sheets (Mr. Tom Brown) has reported as follows concerning them to the secretary of vho Levin Farmers' Union (Mr. H. J. Richards),, to which branch tho supervision tff tests was given:—' 'Dear Sir, —Herewith I hand you the best sheets examined aud marked. Tho order is: — "V. Richards, 1 (£5), 99 marks. "S. Broadbelt, 2 (£3), 87 marks. "J. Macdonald, 3 (£2), fu mirks. "The work of V. Richards is deserving of special commendation. Tho work of S. Broadbelt is good, aud fully deserves the second place. J. Macdonald has taken some trouble with her work, but will probably improvo with practice. I hope the same three will compete again.—Yours faithfully, 'I'. Brown." -
