THE LADIES' TOURNAMENT. INTER-ISLAND GAME. (By ■ Tolosraph.—Press Association.) Wanganul, September 10. Tho inter-Island match held in coflnbction with the championship ladies' tourney eventuated to-day. Tlio weather was favourable, and thore was a big attendance. Despite tho fact that both teams lacked combination there was a lino exhibition of hockey, and tho game waß marked with fine individual efforts. The North Island had tho best of the game in the first spell, but the South Island played up,wonderfully in tho second half. The defence, howover, was good, tho goal being almost impregnable. Miss Arthur (Taranaki) played n splendid game at goal. After a'numbor of attacks, the North Island pressed down, and Miss Pitt (Hawko's Day) scored. Givo-and-tako play was followed by an aggressive move by tho North Island, • ana Miss Pitt again scored. In the second half Tuiss Perrett (Wanganui) boat tho South Island backs and scored. Tho southerners pressed, but wero repulsed, and from a scramble the North Island scorcd. North Island, 4; South Island, nil. Tho South Island maintained a heavy pressure, but a groat defence was put up. Eventually, however, the 1 ball was forced through, giving tho South Island a goal. The game ended: —North Island, 4 goals; South Island, 1 goal. AUCKLAND & WELLINGTON. Tho Auckland-Wellington hcckoy match for the'championship of Now Zealand iB to bo played on tlio Basm Reserve on Saturday, and will be preceded by a' curtain-raiser between tlio Canterbury and Wellington ladies' teams. Tho Auckland, team is said to be a strong one. It is constituted as followsßallam, Spoight, Sloman, Alison, Robinson, R-emiie, Moore, Barry, Robertshaw, Mahoney, and C. N. Jacobsen. Tho reserves aro E. R. Jacobsen and Murray. Baker (full-back) and Porter (centre-half) wero ■ unablo to make the trip. Tlio gamo will bo controlled by Messrs. J. W. Gendall and J. C. Cusack. Tho Auckland team arrives on Thursday • afternoon, and will stay at tho New Commercial Hotel. They will be entertained by tho local association at His Majesty's on Friday night, and at a, smoke concert at Godber's, Oourtcnay Placo, on Saturday evening. s
