LAWYERS' REVOLT. COURT AFFAIRS IN AUCKLAND. Auckland, September 16. A meeting of >tho legal profession, attended by 117 members, discussed cases recently decided in tho Supremo Court. Tlio position was described as amounting to a crisis. A resolution was carried, expressing tho opiniou that certain matters in connection with the administration of justico in the Supremo Court were not satisfactory, either to those pleading at tho bar or to litigants. A resolution was signed by eighty-sis present, and will be referred to tho Council of the Law Society,'who will probably forward it to tho Attor-ney-General. In connection with tlio petition to tho Mayor on tho samo subject, asking him to convene a public meeting, Mr. Parr states ho is taking another day or two to consider before making any announcement. fitness of Licensees. IMPORTANT CASE DECIDED. Cisborne, September 16. In the Supremo Court in tho action for a writ of mandamus to compel Mr. Floranco, S.M., to hear tho application of J. R. Quin for a certificate of fitness to hold a publican's license, Mr. Justico Cooper held that Mr. Florance took a reasonable view of tho matter, two previous applications in respect of dift'erent hotels having been refused by Mr. Barton, S'.M. Regarding the contention that whilst the applicant might be unsuitable to be tho licenseo of a country hotel ho might be quite fitted to hold the licenso of a larger hotel in tho centre of a town, tlio Judge expressed no opinion. Ho said it was open for tho plaintiff to make a fresh application to Mr. Barton. The motion .was dismissed. CRIME CASES. BY-PATH TO RAILWAYS AGAIN. New Plymouth, September 16. Tlio Supreme Court was opened this morning by Mr. Justice Edwards, who congratulated tho district oil its usual freedom from serious crime. Norman Hoskin, a lad who pleaded guilty to forging and uttering an education certificate to tho Railway Dopartmcnt, was ordered to pay costs, and oomo up for sentence when called. Albert I/dward Stewart pleaded guilty to _ breaking and entering, and was admitted to probation for twelve months, and ordered to pay costs. Albert Johnson, convicted on two charges of theft from hotels, was sentenced to twelve months' liard labour and declared an habitual criminal. Y.W.C.A. BUILDING CAMPAIGN. £9358 TO DATE. Auoltland, September 16. Contributions to the Y.W.C.A. building fund campaign to-day totalled £1082, bringing the total amount collected to £9358. Tile campaign continues for another week, and it is expected that tho full amount of £15,000 will bo obtained. DEAR FLASK OF WHISKY. Rotorua, September 16. At tho Magistrate's Court to-day Tuini Takiwa was fined £25 with £3 15s.' costs, for having assisted the licensee of tho Taupo Hotel to commit tl\o offenco of supplying liquor to a Native for consumption off licensed premises within a district in which such is prohibited. Takiwa got a flask of whisky from tho hotel. DUNEDIN FIRE. Dunedln, September 16. A five-roomed house in Hyde Street, occupied by Thomas M'Tigue, was burned down early this morning. The furniture was insured for £150 in the Victoria Office, and tho building (owned by A. Greenwood) was insured in tho State Offico for £300. DIVORCE COURT. Dunedln, September 16.
In tlio Divorce Court this morning a decree nisi was granted in the case Andrew Fleming v. Esther Olive Fleming and Lawrence William Jillings (co-re-spondent). NAPIER SUPREME COURT. Napier, September 16. At the Supreme Court to-day Patrick M'Namara was found guilty, of arson at Hastings, and of having mado a false declaration in connection with a claim for insurance, and remanded lor sentence. Samuel Crago Toms, for attempting to dischargo 'a firearm with intent to do griovous bodily harm to Arthur Hill Tom, -was found guilty of assault and remanded for sentence.
