Tho Military correspondent of "The Times" maintains that the commercial advantages of a Channel tunnel would bo outweighed by tho national risks. If, ho points out, any countryconquered Britain, the cession of tho tunnel might form part of tho conditions of peace, its recovei'.v might be impossible, and Britain would bo permanently enslaved. At tho mooting of the Association of tho Cha,mbors of Commerce, to be held at Antwerp next week, resolutions will ho submitted on behalf of tho London Chamber in favour of the Channel tunnel scheme, and of linking up tho British and Continental railways.
A deputation that waited on the British Prime Minister last month in favour of a Channel tunnel pointed out tho development of aerial navigation, and stated that the French Government was favourable to the Channel proposal, the carrying out of which would cement the Entente. Tho cost of a double tunnel would' bo eighteen millions, an amount that would bo readily subscribed, Mr. Asquitli said the Committee on Imperial Defonco was reconsidering tho tunnel question.
