WESTPORT HARBOUR INQUIRY.
.'FURTHER ALLEGATIONS. (By Tdesranh—Press Association.) Wostport, September 10. The Harbour Board Commission resumed to-day. Lengthy evidence was given by ,Mr., I?. E.Munro .concerning the south'spit land on tho western sido of tho river, acquired by Messrs. Colvin and t M'Mahon on a year-to-year leaso, and later as a .pastoral-leaso and, then sold. . Witness contended that the board should have retained control of this land in viow of probablo future, harbour developments. Ho thought that the board had now ceased to be a political doss-house. Captain Lambert, of. the s.s, Arahura, gave evidence similar to that of tho other captains. He . made additional recommendations which, from his experience as a shipping master 1 with thirty years' experience of tho port, would (he thought) improvo the position for handling shipping. , G. A. Webster, sub-foreman, brought from Auckland, as an expert on ferrocohcroEe work, described what he alleged to have occurred. About onefourth of the time lie was there the men had not work to do, and simply filled in time, the material boing irregularly supplied. He condemned the cement used for part of work. Witness, under tho engineer's instructions, doubled the amount of cement used.,' He considered the wharfage faultily constructed.
