SCULLING.

AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP. James Puddon, the Australian champion, arrived in Sydney last Friday week, after 11 good voyage, and immediately went into quarters on the I'arramatta (says the Sydney "Refereo"). Training with Charlie towns, the big Northern Rivers man seems to have put 011 some Hash since he beat Felton, and ho will probably weigh well over 13st. on the race day. A man of good physique, he is thoroughly equipped for his big task, but states that lie will do nothing further in regard to his challdnge to Harry until after his race with Arnst. Should he succeed against tho ex-champion, he is propared to meet all comers before leaving for England. Opinions at preseut are in favour of Arnst winning 011 November 1. Paddon, of course, has eight weeks in which to perfect his work. His condition will, under the supervision of Harry Floyd, bo' all that is desired, but he'is right up against it in Arnst. Arnst, no doubt, will be down to weight, and at present ho is working hard; but he will need all the work 110 can get from now on. With Alf. Fenton pacing him, the big fellow •should get all the pace he wants. I'addon's work shows an improvement, but there is still plenty of room and time for further improvement.
