A daring crimo was committed at Broken llill on Sunday night when two masked and armed men help up tho Broken Hill-Adelaide oxpress betweou Sulphide, Street Station and Railway Town Station, and got away with two cash boxes containing between £100 and £150 in notes, gold, and silver. . Tho distance between tho two station platforms is only n mile, and tlio ' hold-up was cleverly planned. The Silverton Tramway Company, which controls the line from Broken Hill to tho border, is accustomed to - send largo amounts from Sulphido Street Station to Railway Town Station on Sunday nights. Tho ticket clerk, M'Guiro, deposited tho cash boxes in tho guard's van, and with the guard (Finlayson) and the assistant-guard (Hawes) remained ill tho vail. The express steamed out at 8.30 p.m., and had gouo but two chains whoa two masked men jumped on board and crawled along the footboard to tho van. They then smashed the windows of the van with nil iron bar, and presenting' revolvers, yelled: "Hands up!" One'of the desperadoes remarked to tho other. "Keep them covered whilo I get in. If you have any rot from them, shoot." He then scrambled in, hurled tlio cash boxes out of tho window, and got out. Then tlio pair jumned off tho train which was going slowly, picked up the boxes, and irushed through an adjacent wood yard. A lady passenger saw thorn disappear in tho darkness. All this happened almost in tho town. A porter saw tho robbers leave tho train, and when they jumped off, fio pursued thorn fruitlessly. Tho police immediately scoured tlio district, but Without success. .
