Mr. Austen Chamberlain has, in celebration of his twenty-ono years' Parliamentary connection witli Bast Worcestershire, been presented witli a silver table centre in the form of a Spanish galleon. Mrs. Chamberlain received a. diamond pendant. Acknowledging the sifts, .Mr. Chamberlain said that Lord Morley told liiim that Lord Salisbury once said that no one could understand English politics who did .not realise that tho men who came to great positions ' were .'honestly seeking to serve their country. On an occasion when Mr. Austen Chamberlain complained to his father of "the dojt's life to which I have beon apprenticed," ho wis rebuked for ingratitude, and reminded that the career was of his own choosing, to whio'h he added, "Yes, ami if I had to make it again I should make the samo (dunce."
