The passengers were severely shaken, and there were somo remarkablo oscapes. . , The wheels were buried in the balJast and tjiis prevented the carriages from overturning. The permanent, way was torn up for a distanco of two hundred yards. . Tho cause of tho accident is a mystery; possibly it was duo to subsidence, owing to mining operations.
