Mr. Albert and Mrs. Saiusbury, who shortly leave for England, wore on Friday presented with a silver hot water jug as a parting gift from the committee of the Ladies' Guild of St. Peter's Church, Terrace End, whero for _ somo timo they have been active choir members. NAPIER. A sum of £56 14s. has already been subscribed towards tho Swan memorial. It is feared that the sharp frost on Friday night last has caused considerable damage to tho peach orchards. On Friday last ,an enjoyable evening was' spent in tho Dalefield Hall,' a social being given to celebrate t'ho Dalefield j boys having won the Nioil-Pi'f-.f/.nell cup • for Wairarapa school boys, for tho year l'Jl3. Games proceeded for tho first part of tho evenih/, the grown-ups and tlis children entering into the sport readily; then followed dancing for the children'.' After somo' songs from the children supper 1 was hands'! round. Tho rest of the evening was spent in a dance for tb»- grown-ups. PAHIATUA. The Pahiatua County Council at its next mooting proposes to pass a resolution bringing a clauso of tho Motor ! Mrs. Griffiths, of Waimiro, who was I brought into the Pahiatua Hospital on j Saturday last as tho result of injuries : received' in a trap accident on tho Makuri-Pongaroa road, is progressing favourably towards recovery. NELSON. Mr. 0. W. Brown's residence at Stoko narrowly escaped being destroyed by (ire oil Tuesday evening. A kerosene lamp exploded, and tfio dining-room was soon a mass of flames, which were with difficulty subdued. Tho address of welcomo to ho presented to Lord and Lady Liverpool on their first visit to the city on September 20 has been engrossed and illuminated by tho Town Clerk, Mr. G. A. Edmonds. Between two and throe o'clock on Sunday morning, September 7, Mrs. Maseficld's residence at Manaroa, Pelorus Sound, was totally destroyed by fire. There was a small insurance on the building, but Mrs. Masefield's loss will bo a substantial one, as a quantity of Stores, etc., wero destroyed. Word was | received in Neslon on Thursday that the residence of Mr: and Mrs. W. Moran, of tho Baton, was totally destroyed by fire on Tuesday last, very little being saved. At tho time of 'the firo Mrs. Moran was in town, receiving medical attention. Her husband was also in town oil business, leaving \ a young family under tho caro of a young lady. Tho occupants wero aroused 1 on the night in question by signs of fire, and attempts wero made to remove some of the contents after getting the children out. In this they were only partially successful, when tliov had'..to make a hasty retreat. The origin of tho firo is unknown. '
